Background
Have conducted various research on Harmful Algal Boom which involves phytoplankton taxonomy, eco-physiological studies and toxin production, water quality monitoring. I have conducted HAB research for 4 years in the Philippines which include growth and toxin production of Pyrodinium bahamense and also monitoring at activities. I have conducted 6 years work of research in Singapore (Tropical Marine Science Institute, National University of Singapore) and was involved in the phytoplankton monitoring of Singapore Waters using flow cytometry and microscopy. I have done some culturing of various phytoplankton species specially toxin dinoflagellates. I have also done also done studies developing probes for Gymnodinium catenatum. My PhD studies involve spatio-temporal phytoplankton studies in Swan River estuary and how various microbial populations (bacterioplankton and Virus like particles) and evaluating the influence of physico-chemical properties. I have been attended various HAB taxonomy workshops conducted by IOC with a certification for HAB identification. I have also attended the Advanced Phytoplankton Taxonomy Course hosted by IOC.
