Background
Dr Nayar leads the Aquaculture program and manages the Algal Production Group at SARDI. He has for over two decades led an applied, industry focused, research program developing micro- and macroalgal production systems for high value applications of the sustainably cultivated biomass. Using a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach, Dr. Nayar and his team tackle significant scientific and societal challenges. These include bioremediation of wastewater, bioassimilation of nitrogen, carbon and phosphorus, valorisation of aquaculture waste streams, alongside advancing algal aquaculture for novel marine bio-products. Their efforts are closely integrated with government and industry partners to ensure alignment with practical needs and sustainability goals. Dr Nayar has a deep commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and its practical applications in addressing pressing environmental and economic challenges. His leadership in algal biology and aquaculture underscores his pivotal role in driving innovation and sustainable development within these fields with the ultimate focus on advancing the South Australian Aquaculture industry. He is currently involved with the South Australian Harmful Algal Bloom response.
