Background

I work within Australia and New Zealand, mostly. Based on my research work on diatoms and wastewater, I have developed a technology for the biomanipulation of diatom algae. The use of the technology applies to fresh and marine systems, and creates conditions where diatom algae are able to outgrow other classes of algae and cyanobacteria for long periods of time (months and years), and in doing so the macronutrients, nitrogen and phosphorus, are shifted into the faunal biomass via the diatom based primary production. This reduces the available nutrient for other algae and cyanobacteria to grow on. Mono-specific blooms of diatoms have not been observed due to conditions enabling all diatoms to grow, rather than a mono-specific or mono-genus bloom, e.g. Pseudo-nitzschia. The company that manufactures the products, AlgaEnviro, has been in business for 10+ years.
