The Marine Fishers Association Inc. (MFA) represents the interest of most of the 197 commercial licenced fishers who participate in the South Australia’s Marine Scalefish Fishery (MSF), a coastal Fishery that supplies the vast majority of local fish (such as King George Whiting, Garfish, Snapper and Calamari) to local markets and consumers. The Fishery is SA’s oldest, continuously operating industry of any type, founded in 1836 and current fishers, who are often 4th or 5th generation fishers, supply the same species to local consumers as the Fishery did in 1836 – a wonderful example of stewardship and sustainability over more than 185 years.
