Symposium Keynote Speaker Confirmed & Symposium Abstract Submissions/Workshop Applications Close Monday 12 October 2026

A reminder that abstract submissions for the ANZ HABNet Science Symposium and applications for the Karenia Technical Workshop close on Monday 12 October 2026. If you are planning to present at the symposium or attend the workshop, please ensure your submission or application is received before the closing date. Further information and submission links are available on the ANZHABNet website.
We are very pleased to announce our invited symposium keynote speaker: Dr Christopher Miles, Senior Scientist Toxin Chemistry of the Norwegian Veterinary Institute. Dr Miles will present on the elucidation of the chemical structures of the novel fish-killing toxin "leadbeaterin" (from the haptophyte Chrysochromulina leadbeateri) responsible for a USD 95M salmon mortality incident in Norway in 2019.
The Symposium and Workshop will be held immediately following the Australasian Society for Phycology and Aquatic Botany (ASPAB) 40th Annual Conference (https://aspab.org/conference/), providing an excellent opportunity for delegates travelling to Hobart to attend both events and connect with scientists, regulators and industry representatives working in the fields of phycology, aquatic botany and harmful algal bloom research and management.
